Effi's Jungle (May 2004) My first mural. This room was originally designed for Maeve, but when her sister Effi was born, Maeve got a new fairy room instead. Maeve/ Effi's jungle took Diane and I approximately 4 days and a lot of Oreo consumption to complete. It spans two walls, floor to ceiling. I liked the frog so much, he became my mascot. Shortly after Effi was born her grandmother commissioned me to paint a jungle-themed rocking chair for her. I decided to go with the same animals that are in her mural. Now if the family ever moves or decides to repaint her room (oh, the horror!), she'll always have her mural to take with her. (November 2006)
Corinne's Undersea Nursery (March 2005) Finally, my undersea mural. It's hard to say how long this mural took to complete because I had a hard time saying "enough's enough". Since it was in my house, I knew I'd spend many nights up with my baby, staring at it, obsessing over it and finding any flaws. Let's just say it took about 3 or 4 weeks, off and on, with the generous help of my friend Diane and my husband. It covers all four walls as well as two fish in the closet. The portrait of my dog, Seven, is my favorite. I used some artistic license on the mermaid version of myself. I also gave my husband, Pete, some extra hair.! (click on any picture to enlarge)
Zoe's Kingdom (April 2006) This one was my first paid and first solo job. It covers two walls, approximately two feet from the floor and up to allow for furniture placement. This is where I first began to experiment with shading to achieve a realistic effect. The family members are much more attractive in real life! It took me about 10 days to complete this mural. Maeve's Fairies (June 2006) The second mural for Maeve. It definitely suits her personality better! (That's her on the unicorn.) The fairies are scattered throughout the room with plenty of blank space remaining for furniture and wall art. It took Diane and I 3 or 4 days to complete. (click on any picture to enlarge)
Stuffed Animal Tea Party (November 2006) This mural is for a baby girl who will be born in December and has yet to be named. Her older sister has a mural of a carousel-type rocking horse in her room, so we wanted the two rooms to have a similar feel in terms of theme and color scheme. It is approximately 5 feet by 7 feet in size, and took 5 days to complete. (click on any picture to enlarge)
OTHER THINGS I recently decided that if I could paint on walls, I could certainly paint on furniture, storage boxes, toy chests and pretty much anything else made of wood. They're easier to carry and sell at local craft fairs. So far my thing has been wooden totes, which are sturdy, easy to work with, and pretty useful (take it from a mom who spends a lot of time picking up small toys and throwing them into boxes). Below are some of my creations, many of which are still available for purchasing. If you're interested in having something custom painted for a child in your life, please contact me for pricing and details. (click on photos to enlarge) Fish Toy Box
